Breast Augmentation Post Surgical Capsular ContractureCapsular Contracture is a disturbing and painful condition, which affects the look and feel of the breasts. Capsular contracture can occur following the placement of an implant in the breast tissue. It involves the body repairing the incision by creating a tissue envelope around implant which is called the capsule. The degree of contracture varies from mild to severe and factors implicated include smoking, breast trauma creating an inflammatory response, haematoma (excessive bruising), overactive immune system and surgical complications. Physiotherapy treatment involves resolving accompanying issues such as pain, deformity, rigidity, swelling or internal adhesions of scar tissue. Ultrasound assists in increasing the local circulation and decreases the hardening of the scarring. In addition, specific massage is beneficial in reducing haematomas, softening the tissues, reducing swelling and enhancing lymphatic drainage. Additional physiotherapy treatment involves using tape over scars that consists of a silicon gel that is beneficial in flattening, softening and fading red and raised scars. |
