Occupational Therapy

Bay Active Physio offers occupational therapy services specifically to children. Trained in medical and behavioural sciences including neurology, anatomy, psychology, kinesiology and counselling, occupational therapists provide assessment and intervention for children to develop age appropriate skills in play, learning and self care.

In viewing the child holistically, occupational therapists use play and activities to develop

  • Gross motor and fine motor skills
  • Visual perceptual skills
  • Sensory processing
  • Self care tasks such as dressing and mealtimes
  • School specific tasks such as handwriting, attention and concentration skills
  • Social skills and confident/positive interactions

Occupational therapy involves children of all ages, stages and abilities including

  • Learning difficulties
  • Organisational difficulties
  • Handwriting difficulties
  • Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder
  • Sensory processing difficulties
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Developmental coordination disorder
  • Dyspraxia

Occupational therapy may be a short term assistance or a long term process to maintain continual development and consolidation of age appropriate skills and to reach true potential. Home and school programmes are written to be implemented with both naturalistic environments for further consolidation.

A medical referral is not required and you may be possible to claim the fee through your families health insurance extras cover.
