Post Liposculpture Physiotherapy

In order to produce the best result post-surgery it is recommended that massage and ultrasound are applied.

Type of Treatment

Massage is usually applied over broad areas of your body. Whilst applying massage, your physiotherapist is able to assess if there are any focal areas of tightness or oedema that may respond to ultrasound.

Therapuetic Massage
  • Reduces scar tissue
  • Reduces oedema (swelling)
  • Ensures evenness of texture
  • Removes hard pockets of swelling (‘woodiness’)
  • Increases blood flow
  • Speeds up healing
Therapuetic Ultrasound
  • Is applied to the local areas of scar tissue, swelling.
  • Is a high frequency (1-3 mHz) soundwave that travels up to 4cm through your tissues. This creates micro-vibration of your cells, which speeds the metabolic rate.
  • Helps reduce local areas of scar tissue
  • Helps disperse swelling
  • Increases the local metabolic process
Advice
  • You must continue to wear your garment (for body liposculpture) as this reduces swelling and ensures an even result
  • Your surgeon/physiotherapist will advise you on appropriate exercise and return to activity after surgery.
Frequency of Treatment

In order to ensure the best result, it is recommended that you receive treatment 2-3 times per week for 2-3 weeks, depending on the extent of surgery. In some cases, more treatment may be required for particularly stubborn areas of swelling.

Typical treatment will consist of the physiotherapy consult (advice and massage) together with ultrasound. This may take anywhere from 20-60 minutes depending on the extent of surgery. An outline of the costs is provided below:
