Teen Classes

Our Teens program is specifically designed for teenagers, to improve their fitness, strength and conditioning in the most effective way while minimising injury risk.

Our 45 minutes classes incorporate functional movements, body weight and weighted movements using equipment to build stronger, fitter bodies with improved mobility and flexibility.

  • Research indicates that when teens are given the choice between sedentary activities or something active, they tend to lean toward inactivity. In fact, a 2017 study by John Hopkins University researchers found that 19-year-olds get about the same amount of physical activity as 60-year-olds (1).
  • The 2016 United States Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth found that only 7.5% of 12- to 15-year-olds and 5.1% of 16- to 19-year-olds meet current physical activity guidelines calling for at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily (2).

As kids grow into teenagers, they tend to experience tighter muscles due to growing pains and begin to learn maladaptive postures and habits. This is exacerbated by spending more study time at desks through high school.

Our primary focuse is core stability strengthening via functional exercises to help improve postural strength.

As with any class, our priority is always to teach good mechanics and for Teens to learn to move with optimal and safe techniques.

Progressing intensity and load is always done in a considered and supervised manner in order to prevent injuries through exercise.

Our classes will also improve their mood, self-confidence, self-esteem, resilience, and mindset. Helping teens to become internally motivated to live healthier lifestyles, aspiring to constantly improve their fitness and athleticism.

Exercise class FAQs

Before starting one of our classes, you’ll need a one-hour assessment with a physio. This is to allows us to create an individual plan to help you reach your goals.

To make sure you get the most from your class, we will:

  • Take a detailed history of your previous injuries
  • Assess specific muscles
  • Assess your posture
  • Identify weakened areas and begin ‘retraining’
  • Provide a home exercise program and exercise manual

A few participants may need a follow-up session, which we’ll discuss with you.

Exercise classes are payable at enrolment. The price includes expert guidance and all equipment. Simply bring your own towel, comfy clothes and well-fitting gym shoes!

Our classes are claimable through most private health funds – call your fund to discuss as coverage varies.

*Rate to be paid upfront for participants booking onto a specific weekly class. We do not credit or refund missed classes and classes are not transferable. Missed classes may be made up at another Bay Active class dependent on availability. Fees are non-negotiable and receipts are issued once all classes purchased in a 5, 10, or 20 packs are used up. In case of unexpected low numbers, we reserve the right to change the class time or class level at any time.

Since April, the Department of Health has removed private health insurance rebates for “Pilates” classes. ‘Pilates-informed’ exercises prescribed by physiotherapists are rebateable.
Importantly, Bay Active Physiotherapy has run functional rehabilitation exercise classes for more than 20 years.

Our classes have always been Pilates-informed.

Our group exercise classes have a motor control focus with an emphasis on core stability.They incorporate elements of Pilates, yoga and strength training. As experienced physiotherapists we have a background knowledge of injury and pathology.
