Acute Back & Neck Pain

Around eight out of 10 Australians will experience back pain at some point.
Without help, it can make sleep difficult, force time off work and stop us from being active. It also tends to reoccur, causing worry and stress.
Every year, Bay Active Physio helps hundreds of patients recover from back pain and return to daily activities as
quickly as possible.

What causes back pain?

Back pain can be in the lower back, or higher up in what’s known as the thoracic spine.

It may be acute (a short episode of pain caused by a particular incident) or chronic (where the pain continues even after any initial damage has repaired).

Back pain often has more than one cause, including:

  • Muscle and ligament strains
  • Muscle weakness and imbalance
  • Slipped discs (disc prolapse)
  • Joint laxity
  • Postural strains such as keyboard, driving, writing, lifting, scanning, twisting or carrying
  • Osteoporosis
  • Arthritis
